Older Mikey, now middle aged, reflects on an amazing summer from his youth. The summer he met "the" girl, scored a spot on the travel baseball team and dealt with uncertainty as his US Army Dad was missing overseas. I grew up in an All-American small town. We all miss those days of freely riding bikes down tree lined streets. Where sprinklers sprayed the lawns of the simple squared properties. Where kids filled the yards, sidewalks and streets playing and laughing. I wanted to see this idyllic time of life portrayed in a motion picture that children and parents could see together. I want families to come to the cinema together; to share in time away from devices and the stresses of everyday life. To reconnect our national pastime and the universal life force of love, into one grand experience full of fun, love, laughs and hope. That’s what American Summer is.
I have been told this project is reminiscent of THE BAD NEWS BEARS and THE WONDER YEARS. I would say we are somewhere in between. With AMERICAN SUMMER an audience will enjoy the connection of friend to friend, sibling to sibling, parent to child, grand and great grandparent to child and coach to player. Our film explores a child's desire to be free, to play, to compete, to improve and to be compassionate. To love and be loved, and to learn and live all of life’s lessons. Let’s go down this road together and enjoy a long overdue and much needed family film. AMERICAN SUMMER; a family film for everyone.
